Its colour, sometimes bluish green, is caused by iron oxides within the chemical makeup of the stone.

Aqua chalcedony is associated with emotional balance and tranquility. It is also said to promote eloquence so is often called the 'speaker's stone'.

Aqua Chalcedony in history 

Chalcedony was used to create tools  by the Babylonians and was found in ancient Afghan jewellery. 

Romans believed it encouraged eloquence in speech and protected against evil. 

The name comes from the ancient Byzantine city of Chalcedon (or Kalkedon), now Kadıköy, Turkey.
