March Birthstone Jewellery

Aquamarine means ‘seawater’ and is found in Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar and the USA. The pale blue, transparent crystal is a member of the Beryl family. Its colour, sometimes bluish green, is caused by iron oxides within the chemical makeup of the stone.

This gemstone’s mesmerising colour ranges from deep to pale pastel blue, reminiscent of the ocean. Darker shades of aquamarine are very rare.

Highly prized, the largest aquamarine of gemstone quality ever mined was found in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1910. It weighed over 110 kg.

What is the meaning of Aquamarine?

Although there are many myths and legends about the aquamarine stone, the Greeks and Romans viewed it as “the sailor's gem” and relied on it to ensure their safe passage across stormy seas.
